PHOTO MONITORING OF THE REEF

A protocol is currently in use for monitoring the evolution of the reef through pictures. Each year, and sometimes twice a year, entire sections of the transect are photographed, metre by metre, in order to be able to compare these pictures on a time axis.

This picture monitoring makes it possible to illustrate in a more concrete way the results obtained by the data collection. Over the years, it will be a unique tool to understand, visually, what the change on the reef represents.
It is also a way of reporting, in a non-exhaustive way, on the impact of bleaching on benthic populations, in the form of photo-quadrats for example (see Guide for managers in the French Overseas Territories for the environmental monitoring of coral bleaching episodes and the assessment of their impacts on the coral population, Ifrecor, January 2019).

These photos will of course be a visual tool used during conferences and training.
